0005 - WWTD (WHAT WOULD TED NUGENT DO?)
Gun rights, being grateful, a trip out of the nest, the fire kids started that almost made us have to leave our home, more on why people shouldn’t have kids, people having their pets foreclosed, why 12-gauge shotguns rock, Castle Doctrine, so-called “Affirmative Action”, pulling yourself up by your bootstraps, cats shedding late due to global warming, the Palin problem, does owning a gun make you a nut? Weenies at the DNC, and a cool dude to write in for president.

You both have a healthy view of life that is similar to mine. I enjoyed this podcast. Here are a few thoughts that came to mind as I listened to this episode:
-When our kids were at home I used to tell them that life was not fair, deal with it. After they were gone I thought of something I should have said to them. “Be thankful that life is not fair. If it were you might be a child in Sub-Saharan Africa barely surviving and raising your younger siblings because your parents had died of AIDS.”
-On having a firearms for personal protection. The way I put it is that I am not paranoid. I live in an old wooden house and I have a couple of large commercial fire extinguishers. When I go out in the woods I carry some basic first aid and survival supplies. I certainly hope and fully expect to make it through life without having to use those things. However, it is best to be prepared. Same with firearms. Plus they are fun to shoot!
-On Sarah Palin - While I know a limited amount about her, there are things I disagree with her on, I am sure I will learn of more, and she was picked for practical political reasons I was hoping she would be selected by McCain. She is the closest thing we are likely to get in a major party election to a libertarian. Unlike the other three running for President and VP she does not seem to think that the government and particular the federal government is the solution to all out problems. That view is very dangerous.
She requested that the State AG start the investigation of her. She has a history of fighting corruption. I don’t know how this will play out but I suggest not jumping to conclusions. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alaska_Public_Safety_Commissioner_dismissal and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarah_Palin
I understand being disgusted that she was select to attract the votes of the “If you sit to pee you’ll vote for me” demographic but she may do well if elected. We will see how the campaign plays out. I am always prepared to be dismayed by what politicians do.
The experience thing is over rated. Being a Governor of a State is more relevant experience than being a Senator for a few years and Obama is going for President rather than VP.
I like the quote from William F. Buckley, Jr., “I’d rather be governed by the first 2000 names in the Boston phone book than by the dons of Harvard.” Along with the Harvard dons I would include members of the US Congress.

Best lines from this episode:
“We make the media we want to hear.”
“Don’t stalk us. We’re armed.”
