podcast 19, Wyoming ho!

Michael W. Dean and Debra Jean Dean spend Valentine’s Day at the shooting range and you get to come along. They talk about why they’re moving to Wyoming (and visiting there this summer). Yay! Mew! It’s a fun time and you’ll dig being a fly on the wall as they go on this yummy date as we shoot our first M1 battle rifle.

We drove through Wyoming on our way to California from Illinois. Long stretches out there where you definitely don’t see much. Not that there’s anything wrong with that.

I drive across Wyoming all the time. Best done in the dark IMHO, LOL. Large parts of Wyoming where there’s NOTHING to see, but then there’s parts that you won’t want to miss either. Look us up when you’re in the neighborhood, we’ll kick a few pointers your way if you’d like.
Haven’t gotten to listen to the new episode yet, I’ll check it out at work tonight, but cool that you got to shoot an M1. There’s nothing like holding a piece of history like that in your hand, and actually getting to fire it is icing on the cake. Every summer near here, (and close to the Wyoming border too I might add) there’s a bunch of guys that get together for a machine gun shoot. Don’t worry, they’re all licensed and legal, LOL. Old WWII .30 Calibers, small artillery, lost and forgotten “orphan” guns of various conflicts, M16’s, AR15’s, all sorts of cool hardware and lots of it full auto. They always bring a healthy supply of ammo for the more historically significant pieces, and are all too happy to let visitors touch them off a few times.

Finally got to listen tonight, great show as always. My know it all brain got piqued however when you started talking about the caliber of the M1. You were right, it is a .30 caliber, but there’s more than one way to pet a cat, and more than one .30 caliber. If it were an M1 Carbine, then the cartridge would be a 30 Carbine. It can easily be identified because it’s a straight walled cartridge, made for light weight, and moderate recoil. The M1 Garand on the other hand, has a bit more “reach out and touch someone” ability. It chambered the 30-06 Springfield cartridge, which was a 30 caliber high powered rifle shell with a necked down casing also used in WWII 30 caliber machine guns. Springfield Armory started remaking the Garand a few years ago and offered it in .308 Winchester as well, otherwise known as 7.62 NATO, which is the same round that current 30 caliber machine guns use, as well as several assault rifles favored by other NATO nations such as Great Britain. The HK-91 is an example, as well as some later US rifles like the M1A and the M14 used prior to the adoption of the 5.56 NATO cartridge (known to us civilians as .223 Remington) which was used in the M16, and later the AR-15. They could’ve chambered the remake version of the M1 for other rounds too but I’m not positive. Hell, I could be wrong about everything I just said too, LOL, but that’s the way it was told to me by people that were there.

Just found the pod cast of Nestlandia & the blog StinkFight.Subscribed to the RSS Feeds of both.We met once in Oregon so many years ago.The band I was in at the time, called “Kill Me Kate” (no longer playing)opened up for your musical project at the time.Daryl McCracken -sp?-(our drummer)played drums for a quick stint in your old band BOMB.Long story short-I was very impressed with your creations you showed us on the computer at the time. But I’ll be dammed if I could find KittyFeet.com afterwards!Needless to say,I’m stoked to see your still plugging away & creating your “particular”brand of entertainment.(you all are so cool)Now that I’ve discovered the new addresses,I’ll be spending a lot of time checking out the archives. My blogs are of the “Photoblog”variety with some videos;so when your masterpiece:”A User’s Manual for the Human Experience”is complete I’ll definitely be posting a banner of it & maybe excerpts from the Audio version too.(with your permission,of course)I’m just getting in at episodes#18 & #19(what a way to share VD);so now I get to see how far you take this baby!
