We made it to Wyoming, and we LOVE it!
We made it to Wyoming, and we LOVE it!
I can only post quick update (I’m at a copy shop, paying to use my laptop) until Wednesday (when DSL gets hooked up at our house) but wanted to say we made it.
It was quite an “Adventure in moving” from Los Angeles (more like three days of nervous hell, with very little sleep, in ghetto hotels, the only ones that will let you have cats AND smoke).
Driving big truck (wife did most of the driving) was scary, cats were traumatized by the move, they’re recovering nicely. We love our new place, the cats love it, and our neighbors are all nice and gun friendly.
It’s BEAUTIFUL in Casper. We’re loving living here already.
And the line at the DMV took 20 minutes in and out, with no appointment, to get Wyoming licenses (though a few long-time residents were complaining “it doesn’t usually take this long!”). And it was mellow, no one raised their voice, and the line was us sitting in CHAIRS. How sweet!
In Los Angeles, it takes a minimum of an hour and a half to do anything at the DMV, with an appointment, and it usually feels like a fist fight is going to break out.
Here’s DJ with what we drove here in:

Me kissing the ground in Wyoming just over the border (and a big blue beast swooping down to eat me.)

When in Rome:
We bought a DSA SA58 FAL battle rifle our second day here. Yay!
(also bought a 357 snubbie (will be careful at night, it’s got a “stupefying” flash, I have heard.)
Also got a two-shot .22 Derringer, just for fun, you know, for the wife to have at WalMart as a second gun.
lol….. (It’s so UN-FAL. The FAL could almost use it as ammo!)
I love a lot of things about this place, especially the fact that they sell battle rifles (and .50 cal guns!) at sporting goods stores. Not just gun stores, but places that also sell fishing poles and baseketballs!
Will post more when we have home net access, and finish unpacking and settling in, next week some time.
All in all, moving to Wyoming is one of the best desicions DJ and I have made in our lives, together, or even before we met.
MEW!

So glad you guys made it there safely. Still bummed I didn’t get a chance to visit before you left though. You’ll be sorely missed around here.

SWEET! Glad to hear you made it safe!
I didn’t even think about the sporting good stores, you’ve got to be like a kid in a candy store with that, LOL. You can buy reloading supplies at Wal-Mart in Montana and Wyoming too, as well as guns, and it’s not even uncommon for a large grocery store to have a gun department. It’s not as common as it used to be, but when I was a kid growing up in Eastern Montana the local supermarket had a large section devoted to hunting and fishing supplies, and they were willing to order in any rifle a person wanted. I guess they figured people would stop there for beer and snacks before they went hunting or fishing, so they might as well sell ammo and lures too, with hopes you’d be back for fish batter, hush puppy makins, onions, or whatever else you needed to go with your walleye fillets or deer steaks after you got done, LOL. Darn near every store of just about any kind sells night crawlers too. Gotta love living in a place where people know where their food comes from, and aren’t afraid to get it themselves.
Congrats on the FAL too, now I’m jealous.
I really can’t wait to get together and shoot now.
